Bringing John Lewis Musical to 1,500 Local Students

Georgia’s Own Foundation proudly supported a special matinee performance of Young John Lewis for 1,500 Metro Atlanta high school students at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. The dynamic hip-hop musical follows ten pivotal years in the early life of the civil rights leader, John Lewis. In partnership with ArtsBridge Foundation, we contributed $5,000 to provide snack packs for every student attending. Each pack was carefully assembled and paired with a handwritten note of encouragement by Foundation volunteers! With nearly one in six children in Georgia facing hunger, providing snack packs for all 1,500 students helped ensure that food insecurity didn’t detract from their ability to fully engage.

“As we celebrate Black History Month in Georgia, it’s impossible to overstate the role John Lewis played in shaping our world,” said Dave Preter, president and CEO of Georgia’s Own Credit Union. “Supporting this production and ensuring access for local youth is deeply meaningful to both our team and our members.”
