We ❤ Our Kids! A Fundraiser For Children’s Miracle Network

Throughout the month of February, we will be holding a fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network to show our love for our community’s children and their families. The proceeds will benefit three specific projects across CMN hospitals in Georgia: at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the funds will support the Kids Cooking Club within the Pediatric Diabetes Clinic, at Phoebe Putney Hospital, the expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, expansion of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

The best part is- you can double the love when you give today as the Foundation will match all donations made up to $5,000! There is no minimum donation- all amounts are appreciated and will go a long way toward bringing each of these projects to life.

Thank you for helping us improve what matters!

Initiatives this fundraiser will support include the expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Phoebe Putney Hospital, creation of The Zone -a place for patients to play, watch movies, shoot hoops, and just be kids for a while- at the upcoming Arthur M. Blank Hospital in Atlanta, and the development of the Center for Pediatric Development, Behavior Health & Wellness at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia.

Georgia’s Own Foundation + City of Atlanta team up to provide relief

As part of Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ $7 million relief package for COVID-19, the City of Atlanta will be donating up to $1.5 million to Georgia’s Own Foundation for distribution of grants to contract city employees. The grants of $2,000 each are designed to provide a cushion to individuals who have lost hours or have been laid off in the wake of the pandemic until further relief from the CARES Act arrives. We are thrilled to be partnering with the City on this important initiative, using our talent and resources to provide help where it is most needed. For more information, please check out our press release announcing the initiative!

Action Ministries receives $21,242 Donation For Food-Insecure Children

In just one week, our community raised $11,242 for Action Ministries’ initiative to deliver much-needed meals to children during the school closures due to COVID-19. The Georgia’s Own Foundation provided a $10,000 match and together we were able to donate a total of $21,242 to help these efforts! This funding will help Action Ministries extend support to families that are especially struggling at this time as their work meets the needs of communities that are not being served by others, are more remote in nature or have very limited access to available school meals. The gap is especially large and untenable for many kids whose parents must work. With many parents working in the service industry – grocery, fast food– that are still operating, it is not safe for these kids to travel such distances to find food. Action Ministries removes the barrier of transportation by delivering meals and resources where kids live. A humongous, heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this cause and helped make this possible!

Supporting At-Risk Students During Extended School Break

Each year, 1 million students in Georgia depend on free and reduced lunch programs to sustain their nutrition. When school is not in session, however, these food-insecure children lose access to essential meals. For over 5 years, we have worked with Action Ministries and their Smart Lunch, Smart Kid program to combat this issue during the summer, but with school being out for such an extended time as the country battles the spread of COVID-19, these students need our help right now.

To support our community, we are currently accepting donations towards Action Ministries’ efforts to stop hunger during this time. A $25 donation will connect a child to food for 2 weeks, but of course any amount is greatly appreciated. Also, to ensure we reach as many children as possible, we will be matching all donations made by Friday, March 27, up to $10,000.

To make a donation, please click here. Thank you for helping us improve what matters and for being there for our children.

Help us fight summer hunger through Smart Lunch, Smart Kid

Each year, 1 million children right here in Georgia lose access to lunch when school lets out for the summer. Not surprisingly, this food-insecurity is one of the leading causes of ‘summer slide’ which can have a significant impact on a child’s academic success, and it is also why for the 5th summer in a row, Georgia’s Own is partnering with Action Ministries to provide relief. A donation of $5 will feed a child in need lunch for 2 days, and more importantly, send a message to them that they are cared for, loved by many who have never even met them, and that their circumstances can be overcome.

Our goal is to raise $10,000; enough to provide 4,000 lunches to children in our community. Thank you in advance for any amount you can contribute that will allow us to reach this goal! Click here to donate!

Let’s give the girls of Jesse’s House the Spring Break of a Lifetime!

Jesse’s House is an organization right here in our community that serves as an emergency and long-term shelter for adolescent girls. The goal of Jesse’s House is to provide a safe house until reunification with a girl’s family is possible or until a permanent placement is found.

Jesse’s House has done an incredible job making the shelter feel more like a ‘home’, with comfortable, private rooms, home-cooked family style meals, and cozy, inviting common areas. However even in this space, downtime can be hard on the girls especially during extended breaks from school, knowing that their classmates are with their families, often vacationing and experiencing things that just aren’t an option for them at the moment. That’s why we are pulling together with YOU to provide the girls of Jesse’s House with a spring break they’ll never forget!

Our goal is to raise enough funds to send the girls and their chaperones on adventures to Six Flags Over Georgia, Stone Mountain Park, Horse Back Riding, and Zip Lining at Lake Lanier. We hope you’ll consider helping us provide the girls of Jesse’s House with memories they’ll hang on to forever with this Spring Break Experience! Your gift, at any level, will make an enormous difference in a young girl’s life. Please click here if you’d like to make a donation, and be sure to note ‘Jesse’s House’ in the Order Notes under Additional Information when checking out. Thank you for your consideration and support of this initiative!

Luggage Drive For Jesse’s House Exceeds Goal!

A huge thanks to everyone who contributed to the luggage/teddy bear drive for our friends at Jesse’s House! Through your support, we were able to exceed our goal of providing 50 duffle bags and bears to the emergency shelter for girls and provide them with 60 of each. Now, each girl who leaves Jesse’s House in 2018 is ensured that she will start her new journey with confidence and love.

John White Scholarship applications open March 1, 2017

The Georgia’s Own Foundation is pleased to announce that the John B. White, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, presented by Georgia’s Own Credit Union, is now accepting applications for the 2017 award.

The $5,000 scholarship is a need-based award that will be granted to a high school senior who will be the first generation in their family to attend college.
