Support Uvalde With Donation Match From the Georgia’s Own Foundation
Our team here at Georgia’s Own shares in the shock and heartbreak as the aftermath of the tragedy in Uvalde, TX unfolds. We can’t begin to imagine the grief the victims’ families must be experiencing, and like many of you, feel compelled to take action and help in some meaningful way. The organization VictimsFirst is a network of survivors and relatives affected by previous mass shootings and is currently fundraising to provide no-strings-attached cash payments directly to victims’ family members. Will you join us in sending a message of support to the families through VictimsFirst with a financial donation? The Georgia’s Own Foundation will be matching all contributions made through June 1st up to $5,000.
Thank you for your consideration, and for helping us improve what matters.
Preventing Summer Slide With Share the Magic
On Monday, May 16, we will be teaming up with former Georgia Bulldog star and Superbowl Champ, Malcolm Mitchell, to bring a Reading Rally to the students at Woodson Park Academy School in Atlanta. Mitchell’s foundation, Share the Magic, aims to promote youth literacy through book ownership, so we will be donating 800 books to the students ahead of summer break to help prevent the ‘summer slide’ that often occurs when children are away from school for long periods of time. The students will be treated to a reading of The Magician’s Hat, which was written by Malcolm himself, as well as a real magic show!
Nurses’ Appreciation Day
It is no secret that nurses play a more than vital role in our everyday lives and the past two years have been more taxing than ever on their profession. Even though the pandemic seems to have waned, the challenges for nurses continue as staffing remains a challenge and the trauma of serving through the Covid-19 period is still ever-present. To honor their work, we surprised the nurses in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with Chick-fil-A lunches as a small token of our appreciation on Nurses’ Appreciation Day.
