Action Ministries receives $21,242 Donation For Food-Insecure Children
In just one week, our community raised $11,242 for Action Ministries’ initiative to deliver much-needed meals to children during the school closures due to COVID-19. The Georgia’s Own Foundation provided a $10,000 match and together we were able to donate a total of $21,242 to help these efforts! This funding will help Action Ministries extend support to families that are especially struggling at this time as their work meets the needs of communities that are not being served by others, are more remote in nature or have very limited access to available school meals. The gap is especially large and untenable for many kids whose parents must work. With many parents working in the service industry – grocery, fast food– that are still operating, it is not safe for these kids to travel such distances to find food. Action Ministries removes the barrier of transportation by delivering meals and resources where kids live. A humongous, heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this cause and helped make this possible!
Supporting At-Risk Students During Extended School Break
Each year, 1 million students in Georgia depend on free and reduced lunch programs to sustain their nutrition. When school is not in session, however, these food-insecure children lose access to essential meals. For over 5 years, we have worked with Action Ministries and their Smart Lunch, Smart Kid program to combat this issue during the summer, but with school being out for such an extended time as the country battles the spread of COVID-19, these students need our help right now.
To support our community, we are currently accepting donations towards Action Ministries’ efforts to stop hunger during this time. A $25 donation will connect a child to food for 2 weeks, but of course any amount is greatly appreciated. Also, to ensure we reach as many children as possible, we will be matching all donations made by Friday, March 27, up to $10,000.
