Georgia’s Own Foundation Teams Up With Action Ministries For Summer Lunch Program
Each year, one million children in Georgia lose access to meals when school lets out for the summer. Of course, this environment presents even greater demands as these affected students have been out of school since March, and many parents in our community are struggling with job security as well. Our friends at Action Ministries are especially equipped to serve those in need right now, delivering food directly to their neighborhoods and removing at least one stressor for these families during this difficult time.
A $5 donation will feed a child lunch for two days, and any amount will go a long way to help our neighbors fight hunger. If you’re able to give, please click here. Thank you for helping us improve what matters!
Help us feed the frontline!
We’re all searching for ways to help our community right now, whether it’s championing our heroes fighting on the frontlines of the pandemic or supporting our local businesses who need us now more than ever. Georgia’s Own Foundation is striving to do both by delivering meals to healthcare workers in Northeast, Metro, and Southwest Georgia- prepared by some of our favorite local restaurants. To help us lift up both of these hard-hit industries, please consider making a donation in any amount here. Thank you!
Georgia’s Own Foundation + City of Atlanta team up to provide relief
As part of Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ $7 million relief package for COVID-19, the City of Atlanta will be donating up to $1.5 million to Georgia’s Own Foundation for distribution of grants to contract city employees. The grants of $2,000 each are designed to provide a cushion to individuals who have lost hours or have been laid off in the wake of the pandemic until further relief from the CARES Act arrives. We are thrilled to be partnering with the City on this important initiative, using our talent and resources to provide help where it is most needed. For more information, please check out our press release announcing the initiative!
Action Ministries receives $21,242 Donation For Food-Insecure Children
In just one week, our community raised $11,242 for Action Ministries’ initiative to deliver much-needed meals to children during the school closures due to COVID-19. The Georgia’s Own Foundation provided a $10,000 match and together we were able to donate a total of $21,242 to help these efforts! This funding will help Action Ministries extend support to families that are especially struggling at this time as their work meets the needs of communities that are not being served by others, are more remote in nature or have very limited access to available school meals. The gap is especially large and untenable for many kids whose parents must work. With many parents working in the service industry – grocery, fast food– that are still operating, it is not safe for these kids to travel such distances to find food. Action Ministries removes the barrier of transportation by delivering meals and resources where kids live. A humongous, heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this cause and helped make this possible!
Supporting At-Risk Students During Extended School Break
Each year, 1 million students in Georgia depend on free and reduced lunch programs to sustain their nutrition. When school is not in session, however, these food-insecure children lose access to essential meals. For over 5 years, we have worked with Action Ministries and their Smart Lunch, Smart Kid program to combat this issue during the summer, but with school being out for such an extended time as the country battles the spread of COVID-19, these students need our help right now.
To support our community, we are currently accepting donations towards Action Ministries’ efforts to stop hunger during this time. A $25 donation will connect a child to food for 2 weeks, but of course any amount is greatly appreciated. Also, to ensure we reach as many children as possible, we will be matching all donations made by Friday, March 27, up to $10,000.
