85 Acts of Kindness Initiative Concludes With Grant to Miracle at KSU
Throughout the past year, Georgia’s Own Foundation and Georgia’s Own Credit Union have teamed up to bring 85 Acts of Kindness to the community in celebration of our 85th Anniversary. The initiative kicked off in January by surprising TSA employees affected by the government shutdown with 8.5 gallons of free gas. Other favorite ‘acts’ include planting in the organic vegetable garden at Camp Twin Lakes, surprising students at Green Acres Elementary School with a pizza party featuring Dansby Swanson, and delighting the community with free King of Pops on Tax Day, along with last-minute filing tips.
We capped off the year with a social media contest encouraging our followers to nominate their favorite non-profit for a chance to win an $8,500 grant from the Foundation. Miracle at KSU, a student-run non-profit at Kennesaw State University focused on raising money for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, was declared the winner and we know that this gift will go a long way toward spreading even more kindness in the energetic and capable hands of these future leaders!
Help us fight summer hunger through Smart Lunch, Smart Kid
Each year, 1 million children right here in Georgia lose access to lunch when school lets out for the summer. Not surprisingly, this food-insecurity is one of the leading causes of ‘summer slide’ which can have a significant impact on a child’s academic success, and it is also why for the 5th summer in a row, Georgia’s Own is partnering with Action Ministries to provide relief. A donation of $5 will feed a child in need lunch for 2 days, and more importantly, send a message to them that they are cared for, loved by many who have never even met them, and that their circumstances can be overcome.
Our goal is to raise $10,000; enough to provide 4,000 lunches to children in our community. Thank you in advance for any amount you can contribute that will allow us to reach this goal! Click here to donate!
Let’s give the girls of Jesse’s House the Spring Break of a Lifetime!
Jesse’s House is an organization right here in our community that serves as an emergency and long-term shelter for adolescent girls. The goal of Jesse’s House is to provide a safe house until reunification with a girl’s family is possible or until a permanent placement is found.
Jesse’s House has done an incredible job making the shelter feel more like a ‘home’, with comfortable, private rooms, home-cooked family style meals, and cozy, inviting common areas. However even in this space, downtime can be hard on the girls especially during extended breaks from school, knowing that their classmates are with their families, often vacationing and experiencing things that just aren’t an option for them at the moment. That’s why we are pulling together with YOU to provide the girls of Jesse’s House with a spring break they’ll never forget!
Our goal is to raise enough funds to send the girls and their chaperones on adventures to Six Flags Over Georgia, Stone Mountain Park, Horse Back Riding, and Zip Lining at Lake Lanier. We hope you’ll consider helping us provide the girls of Jesse’s House with memories they’ll hang on to forever with this Spring Break Experience! Your gift, at any level, will make an enormous difference in a young girl’s life. Please click here if you’d like to make a donation, and be sure to note ‘Jesse’s House’ in the Order Notes under Additional Information when checking out. Thank you for your consideration and support of this initiative!
